My E2train website 2010 redesign
August 11, 2010A recent project I have been working on over the past couple of weeks is a redesign of a company website in which I will be going for an interview for. Now this will be my second attempt at trying to get into this company so let’s hope it goes well.
Now when I discovered that I had applied for a job with E2train, I say discovered because the job site in which I applied for the job did not give the name of the company. I was looking around the website and one of the first thoughts about the site was that finding information was rather difficult, there were too many options and nothing was where I thought it would be. Below you can see a screen shot of the website as it currently stands.

Now the home page if feel is a little too busy with information and I think, I like the fact that there are four large buttons to take you to the main sections of the site that they want you to go to. The main navigation I feel has to many sections and if you click in to the section you will see that they have subsections that come into the left hand section. See the image below:

Has you can see the sub navigation appears in the left hand side and to me is not really clear, I also found that the “Next Steps” section under the sub navigation I find annoying, I just don’t see the point of this. It clutters up the website and I think confuses people.
On the home page of the old site there was a flash movie which I really like and in my design I have kept this, if the user does not have flash there will see just an image so there is some kind of content there.
So let’s have a look at my site:

On my redesign I have designed the site to be a WordPress site, as I find WordPress to be simple to use with any web user, I like the idea of the big buttons on the home page so have kept that and to make the sub navigation more clear I have moved that to above the main content and used images so if people are viewing this on a iphone or ipad or any other touch device there have some bigger to hit.
I have cut a lot of the sections down and moved the contact information to the site under the main navigation so anybody wanting to quickly get the number to call E2train can do with ease, I have also put the information in the side bar because if users are viewing the site and suddenly have a question and want to call, then they can.
I liked the original colour scheme on the site so have kept using it as I found it to be easy on the eye, I hope to show this site in the interview and will be interested to hear what E2train have to say, even if they turn around and go its rubbish, I always like to find out why and there reasons. Web design is a continuing learning curve.
I would like to have some feedback on this site, so if you would like to leave your comments please feel free.
